Georgia Southern is no stranger to successful amateur golfers, with 2022 U.S. Amateur runner-up Ben Carr and 2019 NCAA Championship runner-up Steven Fisk most notably to their credit.

Now, senior Brantley Baker is looking to add his name to the history books after a strong showing in the first round of the 2024 Georgia Amateur Championship at the Augusta Country Club.

After three birdies and three bogeys propelled him to an even par front nine, Baker played bogey-free golf and recorded three birdies on the way in to card a back nine 36. At 3-under par on the day, Baker sits in a tie for third. He and five others trail 2023 champion Jake Peacock and Georgia Tech senior Aidan Kramer by just one stroke.

Baker is not the only current or former Eagle in the field as Georgia Southern has seven total representatives in the mix. 2018 Georgia Amateur champion Brett Barron, Parker Claxton, Luke Dasher, Hogan Ingram, Brycen Jones, Luke Koenig and Henry Mabbett are all active participants as well.
