Just a day after Georgia Southern senior Brantley Baker fired a three-under par 69 at the Georgia Amateur Championship, another Eagle find themself near the top of the leaderboard at Augusta Country Club.
After a first round 75, junior Parker Claxton posted a 67 — capped with an unfortunate bogey on hole No. 18 — to move to two-under par on the tournament. As of the time of writing, his five-under par round is the best of the tournament by one stroke.
Claxton sits in a tie for 11th at the time of publishing, just one shot behind Baker at three-under par. Current Eagle sophomore Brycen Jones sits in a tie for 17th at one-under par. Former Eagles Henry Mabbett (T28) and Luke Dasher (T48) also find themselves inside the top-60 and ties cutline at the time of writing.
2018 Georgia Amateur champion Brett Barron, Luke Koenig and Hogan Ingram will more than likely miss out on the weekend.
