As the countdown to the 2024 football season continues, we will be taking a look at members of the Georgia Southern football team who may be poised for a more substantial role for the Eagles this fall. To kickoff our breakout candidate series, we’ll be taking a look at junior wide receiver Marcus Sanders Jr.
The 6-foot-3, 195-pound Sanders was incredibly efficient at the high school level, hauling in 47 receptions for 1,092 yards and an astounding 21 touchdowns. His flashes on the field earned him a three-star rating from ESPN and 12 Division I offers before he eventually decided on the in-state Eagles.
Sanders found immediate playing time in year one under Clay Helton, bringing in 20 catches for 171 yards and a touchdown on just 281 offensive snaps as a true freshman. However, his role diminished last season as he recorded just six receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown.
The Eagles boast a loaded wide receiver room and Sanders projects to be more of a depth piece than anything in 2024. However, his sheer athleticism and ideal build gives me faith in the now veteran wideout. Despite playing limited snaps, Sanders has show flashes of greatness on the field.
(EXTRA: This may be just me — DJ — staking my claim on Sanders more than anything, but I truly believe he has what it takes to be a star.)
