Since the beginning of the calendar year, Spain Park (AL) wide receiver Corey Barber has received nearly two dozen Division I offers. Among the programs to express their interest in the 6-foot-1, 185-pound receiver was the Georgia Southern Eagles.

“It’s really a blessing knowing all the hard work I have put in,” Barber said of the recent influx of offers. “The biggest thing is thanking God for putting me in this position."

Barber starred for the Jaguars last season, hauling in 73 receptions for 1,424 yards and 17 touchdowns. His eye-popping stats were enough to earn the sophomore All-State honors for the second straight season.

And while the Eagles were one of the first schools to begin their pursuit of Barber, 11 Power Four programs have also extended an offer to the talented wideout. However, his relationship with Damion Willis — the Eagles’ inside receivers coach — has kept Georgia Southern in the mix up to this point.

“I have talked to Coach Willis and we chop it up on the phone a lot,” Barber said. “He tells me I’m a great player and I fit their scheme really well.”

Despite receiving attention from some of the nation’s top programs, Barber and his father are still exploring a potential visit to Statesboro in the near future. It may be considered a recruiting win in and of itself to get the soon-to-be highly ranked student-athlete on campus.
