After losing more than 20 players to the transfer portal following the 2024 college football season, Georgia Southern was forced to turn to the transfer portal themselves for a total of 19 players.
We already took a look at the players that left Georgia Southern behind, but this article will take a look at what each transfer addition accomplished as an Eagle this season.
TE Ahmon Green - Georgia State: After an early injury kept River Helms sidelined for the entire season, Green slid into a more prominent role as the Eagles’ starting tight end. He hauled in just 16 receptions for 166 yards, but served as an effective blocker all season. He exhausted his last year of eligibility with the Eagles, likely signaling the end of his competitive football career.
DB AJ Brown Sr. - Ole Miss: The former four-star recruit struggled to find the field in his first season with the Eagles, recording just six tackles this season. With two years of eligibility remaining, Brown will have ample opportunities to fight for a larger role.
DB Antonio White Jr. - Rutgers: White’s time with Georgia Southern was short lived, as he left the team following an embarrassing season-opening loss to Fresno State. Following the completion of the 2025 season, he officially entered his name into the transfer portal for the second time. He has three years of eligibility remaining.
LB Brendan Harrington - Appalachian State: After spending six years on the other side of Deeper Than Hate, Harrington etched his name into the history of the rivalry after helping take down his former team twice in the same season. When it was all said and done, he recorded 85 tackles, three pass breakups, two tackles for loss and an interception this season. The seventh-year linebacker has exhausted his college eligibility and is now preparing for the upcoming NFL Draft.
LB Brandon Tyson - Elon: As a former FCS Freshman All-American with the Phoenix, Tyson came to Statesboro with high experience. He more than lived up to the lofty expectations by totaling 87 tackles, six quarterback hurries, 2.5 tackles for loss, one interception and one fumble recovery. He will stay with the Eagles for his redshirt senior season in 2026.
WR Brian Green Jr. - Florida: Green played just 25 snaps during his first season as an Eagle and failed to record a single catch. After a disappointing season, Green has entered his name into the transfer portal for the second time. He has two years of eligibility remaining.
DL Caleb Moore - Southern Mississippi: After appearing in 10 games for the Golden Eagles as a true freshman, Moore brought his talents to Statesboro. In 11 starts, he totaled 27 tackles, three tackles for loss, 1.5 sacks, one fumble recovery and one pass breakup. Following the Eagles’ bowl win, he announced that he would return to Statesboro with two years of eligibility remaining.
WR Camden Brown - Auburn: You don’t need us to reming you what Camden Brown did in his one season at Georgia Southern. His 65 receptions for 1,079 and 14 touchdowns shattered nearly every Georgia Southern record. His spectacular season has hopefully earned himself a spot on an NFL roster in the very near future.
DB Carlo Thompson - UNC Pembroke: After an outstanding season with the Braves at the Division II level, Thompson struggled to find the field during his first season in Statesboro. In six appearances, he recorded just four tackles. He maintains one year of eligibility and will return to Statesboro for his final season.
DL Devan Lowe - Hutchinson Community College: Lowe served mostly as a rotational player along the Eagles’ defensive line in 2025, totaling 21 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss and half of a sack in 11 appearances. He has since entered the transfer portal and committed to Memphis. He has one year of eligibility remaining.
WR Dylan Gary - West Georgia: In a wide receiver room full of talent, Gary simply struggled to find the field. In his limited playing time, he hauled in just six receptions for 59 yards and a touchdown. He has since transferred to Kennesaw State and has one year of eligibility remaining.
TE Jackson Long - Georgia Tech: After failing to appear in a game during his two years in Atlanta, Long also failed to earn any playing time in Statesboro. He has one year of eligibility remaining and will return to Georgia Southern.
DB Jayden Davis - Georgia Tech: Davis tallied 10 tackles in his Georgia Southern debut against Fresno State, but left the program immediately following the game. He has since entered the transfer portal and has two years of eligibility remaining.
DL Kwon McGinney - Arkansas State: After transferring twice in the same offseason, McGinney was used mostly as a reserve on the Eagles’ defensive line. He totaled just five tackles in five appearances, but will return to Georgia Southern to use his last season of eligibility.
Marcus Downs - UCF: Downs has yet to appear in a game for Georgia Southern, but he will be presented with plenty of opportunities to do so in bus three remaining years of eligibility.
TE River Helms - Western Kentucky: Helms hauled in one catch for a four-yard touchdown in his Georgia Southern debut, but suffered a season-ending injury just a few drives later. He is returning to Statesboro for his final year of eligibility and should be primed for a much larger role.
QB Turner Helton - Western Kentucky: Helton served as the Eagles’ official backup quarterback this year, but actually saw less playing time than true freshman Weston Bryan. In three appearances, the head coach’s son completed just over 53% of his passes while throwing for 74 yards and one score. He will return to Statesboro for his final year of eligibility and should be squarely in contention for the Eagles’ starting quarterback position.
OL Ty Furnish - Virginia: After starting 29 games in Charlottesville, Furnish served as a rotational piece along an extremely talented Eagles’ offensive live. With all five of the team’s starting offensive linemen leaving the program, Furnish could potentially return to a starting role in his final season of eligibility.
DL Uche Iloh - Georgia Tech: Iloh appeared in all 12 games in his first season at Georgia Southern, totaling 15 tackles, two quarterback hurries and half of a tackle for loss. He maintains three years of eligibility and will return to Statesboro next season.
