Cartersville (GA) tight end Davis Waddell holds just two Division I scholarship offers, but the Georgia Southern program already has a leg up on any other potential suitors.
“They were one of the first schools to take a chance on me,” Waddell said. “The college town and their past history of winning (stands out). Winning is what I like to do.”
While the offer is still fresh in the mind of Waddell, the communication from both sides has been less than expected. However, this is something he plans to change in the coming months as his recruitment begins to ramp up.
“I haven’t really been in touch with them,” Waddell said. “I could and should reach back out and build a stronger and better bond with them.”
Despite the lack of communication, Waddell has named the Eagles as the school to beat at this point in his recruitment — edging out Kennesaw State, who is the only other program to extend an offer to the 6-foot-4, 215-pound athlete.
Waddell has visited a number of Power Five schools but has yet to make the trek to Statesboro, something he plans to change this spring. While no date has officially been set, he is eyeing the Eagles’ annual Blue and White games a potential target.
