The moment an athlete receives their first scholarship offer is a moment they will remember forever. Douglas County (GA) offensive lineman Joshua Vaughan joined this elite faction of athletes when Georgia Southern extended an offer late last month.
“It’s incredibly meaningful,” Vaughan said of the offer. “All the hours in the gym, on the field and the sacrifices I’ve made are starting to pay off. (I’m) seeing my dreams come to life.”
Since the Eagles extended an offer to the 6-foot-1, 295-pound interior lineman, in-state rival Georgia State joined in with a scholarship offer of their own. In all, Vaughan holds four scholarship offers across all levels.
Vaughan earned All-Region honors last season for the Tigers, showcasing why the Georgia Southern coaching staff is as high on him as they are.
“The coaches have expressed a lot of confidence in me,” Vaughan said. “(They) see me as someone who can make an immediate impact.”
Despite holding just two FBS offers, Vaughan has already singled out the Eagles as perhaps the top schools in his mind at this point in time. During an interview with GATA Central, he mentioned that the culture and tradition surrounding the program are the main draws at Georgia Southern.
And while Vaughan has yet to make the journey to Statesboro, he and his family have scheduled their first for March 8. In addition to GATA Jam that evening, the football team will host an open scrimmage for fans and recruits alike.
“It’s a great opportunity to connect with the staff and other recruits and get an even better feel for the program,” Vaughan said of his upcoming visit. “I want to experience the campus and see how I feel being around the team and coaches in person.”
