With just a few months until signing days begin to roll around, the Georgia Southern football program has wasted no time adding a slew of commitments to their 2025 recruiting class.
St. Pius X (GA) safety Hudson Taylor did not receive an offer from Georgia Southern until February, but announced his commitment to the Eagles just last month. He chose the program over a Sun Belt Conference rival in Coastal Carolina.
“I was very intrigued by the fanbase and how active it is every year,” Taylor said. “Also, how much the coaches really care about the players and their well-being.”
While Taylor put up outstanding number as a junior last season — recording 89 tackles, 12 pass breakups, two interceptions and a forced fumble — the opportunity to prove himself early on was too good to pass up.
“What I liked is that they aren’t going to promise players that they’ll start year one and just lie to you,” Taylor said. “They tell you that if you’re the best player, you will play — despite age and experience.”
The Eagles were the first university to extend a scholarship offer to Taylor, with the Chanticleers joining in pursuit of the 6-foot, 185-pound defensive back just a month later. Despite the fact that his brother is currently enrolled at Georgia Southern, their early belief in his abilities played perhaps the largest role in his quick commitment.
“It played a huge role,” Taylor said. “They were the first school that really wanted me and that already made me like them more than anyone else.”
The talented defender will make his way back to Statesboro in September as the Eagles open their season with a big-time matchup against the Boise State Broncos. It should serve as the first of many gameday visits by the Taylor family in 2024.
