In-state tight end spills on recent visit

As the 2025 recruiting cycle reaches its end, the Georgia Southern coaching staff has begun to hit the recruiting trail as it turns its focus to the class of 2026.

Alexander (GA) tight end Paxton Dobbs was among the dozens of athletes in the class of 2026 to receive a visit from the Georgia Southern coaching staff last week, as assistant coach Darius Safford made the nearly four-hour trek to pay him a visit.

"It was a great conversation," Dobbs said. "(Safford) was genuine, straightforward and made me feel like a priority. He explained the program's culture and how they see me fitting in moving forward."

As one of the primary targets on a run-heavy team, Dobbs accounted for the third-most yards of any Cougar and was one of just six to haul in a touchdown reception. His versatility as a receiver and the Eagles' need at the tight end position could result in early playing time for the talented pass catcher.

While the prospect of an offer from the Eagles is intriguing by itself, the chance to join such a historically successful program is also something that piqued Dobbs' attention.

"I'm intrigued by the winning tradition and the opportunity to grow both on and off the field," Dobbs said. "The coaching staff and their vision for the program really stood out to me."

Dobbs has yet to receive a Divison I offr, but the 6'4" tight end has remained on the Eagles' radar for nearly the past year. After multiple visits to campus and the program's most recent in-school visit, his name is one to keep an eye on as the staff continues to build their next recruiting class.

"An offer from Georgia Southern would be huge and definitely make me think hard about my decision," Dobbs said. "They're a great program that I could see myself thriving in."
