The moment a student-athlete receives their first scholarship offer is something they will carry with them for the remainder of their career.

Providence Day School (NC) guard Jonah Lawrence announced his first offer from Western Carolina after camping with the program in late August.

"WCU as my first offer means so much to me because of how much they believe in me," Lawrence said. "It's special that it is an in-state program because I think it shows a level of loyalty and respect to the state."

The 6-foot-5, 180-pound guard was among the most impressive performers at the Catamounts' recent camp, prompting the program to extend an offer. However, the relationship between Lawrence and the program is not a new one.

"I have been building a strong relationship with lots of the staff at WCU," Lawrence said. "I talk to them every week. It's mostly just catching up and we already have a strong bond which is only going to become more."

While nothing has been hammered down at the time of writing, Lawrence has been in contact with numerous college coaches and is hoping to visit a number of schools during the season.
