There are not many Division I football programs that recruit in-state athletes better than the University of Nebraska.
In fact, nearly a third of the program's commits in the class of 2023 hailed from within the borders the state.
2025 four-star Westside (NE) linebacker Christian Jones is just the latest athlete to hold the prestigious title of the No. 1 player in his home state.
"I don’t really feel that much pressure," Jones said. "I do feel the target on my back which is how I want it to be. It makes me work harder every day and pushes me to always make sure that target is getting higher everyday for the people trying to hit it."
The 6-foot-3, 210-pound defender is ranked as high as the No. 60 overall recruit and the No. 5 player at his position in the class of 2025. As expected, more than a dozen Power Five programs have already begun pursuing his services.
And although the Cornhuskers have made a strong impression on the talented defenders, Jones is making sure to keep his options open. Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Wisconsin are among the other programs making the strongest push for Jones.
"I’m blessed to have the opportunity as a Nebraska kid, but I am for sure keeping my eyes out of state and seeing what everyone has to offer," Jones said. "It would be a cool place to be and be apart of that historic program if I pick Nebraska to go to."
Jones is not putting a strict timeline on his recruitment in order to truly learn what each program has to offer, but is graduating high school early in order to enter college as a mid-year enrollee next December.
