Receiving an athletic scholarship offer is a special moment for any athlete, but holding scholarship offers as a middle school student is something only a select few athletes can relate to.
Sunnyslope (AZ) point guard Delton Prescott joined an elite club in April, when Portland extended the first scholarship offer to the young star. Since then, five other Division I programs have begun their pursuit of his services.
"The feeling is amazing," Prescott said. "Just knowing that I have options at such a young age, it really is paving the way for me throughout the rest of my career."
Arizona State is the most recent and most notable scholarship offer on the table for the 6-foot point guard, marking his first high-major offer.
"Getting an offer from ASU is a great feeling," Prescott said. "It is the city’s college and my aunt also attended for women's basketball."
Prescott's aunt, Olivia Major, was a three-point specialist for the Sun Devils more than 10 years ago, only deepening his connection with the program.
"I feel we have a great connection," Prescott said. "(We are) just having good talks and getting to know each other and growing the bond we are creating."
While the program has expressed interest in hosting Prescott for a visit this season, nothing has been set in stone at the time of writing.
