GHSA State Championship Preview: Class A Division II

This morning, Prep Ballers began its coverage of next week's GHSA state football championships, a series that will continue throughout next week.

The second game on the schedule brings us another familiar matchup between the Bowdon Red Devils (12-2) and the Manchester Blue Devils (12-2). In the last two seasons alone, the two programs have met four seasons, including a playoff matchup just last season en route to a state championship for the Red Devils.

Their most recent meeting took place during week one of the GHSA football season, when the Blue Devils escaped with a one-point victory over the team that ended their previous season.

Outside of one big name, the recruiting implications of Monday's final matchup. However, there are a number of intriguiging names to monitor as fans take in the game.

Below is a list of all players with college offers, along with a hyperlink to their recruiting profile if available.

Bowdon

  • 2024 linebacker Jordan Beasley (nine Division I offers)

  • 2024 athlete Chris Wyatt (one Division I and one Division II offer)

  • 2024 athlete Devan Powell (one Division I offer)

  • 2024 quarterback Kyler Mcgrinn (two Division II and two NAIA offers)

  • 2025 offensive/defensive lineman Jackson Edwards (two Division III offers)

  • 2026 wide receiver Kaiden Prothro (11 Division I offers)

Manchester

  • 2024 four-star defensive lineman Justus Terry (Georgia commit)

Analysis and Pick

While Manchester took down the Red Devils in August, I think Monday's contest will have a much different outcome.

Not only is it extremely difficult to beat the same team twice in one season, but Bowdon has turned into a different beast since the first two weeks of the season. Their season-opening losses to Manchester and Central account for two of the program's three games of less than 30 offensive points.

As the most talented player on the field, Terry will undoubtedly throw a wrench into the Red Devils' offensive gameplan, but the in-season growth of the Bowdon offense as a whole is impossible to ignore. Monday should bring another tightly-contested matchup, but I believe the Red Devils will defend their title.
